Spare the Roman ruins, spoil the tank

Tweeting Tripoli has a most interesting photograph:

The caption: "NATO precision, a Tank hit by a rocket and a roman ruins meters away not touched"

Don't hold me to this, but based on the caption, if I had to guess, this picture was taken near Leptis Magna, birthplace of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus, though to be sure there are other Roman ruins in Libya.  The UN had pleaded with Libya and NATO to protect the sites.  It looks like Gadhafi is, as I feared, using ancient ruins as "archaeological shields."  Fortunately, judging by this picture, it seems NATO is able to strike Gadhafi's forces without hitting the ruins themselves.

Let's hope this is indicative of how these sites will survive the war.
